Straight from the app

What PocketChomp stands for.
Your groceries are actually in it.
Health Canada's nutrient file and the house brands you regularly buy. It's fibre, not fiber.
The basics are never paywalled.
Barcode scanning, label scanning and every micronutrient are free. Plus adds shortcuts that make day-to-day logging faster.
On your device by default.
Every log is written to your phone first. No account required, and syncing is always optional.
Beyond the calorie.
Set a daily goal for any nutrient beyond the macros, like at least 30 g of fibre or under 50 g of sugar. It becomes that nutrient's target on your Diary, and PocketChomp counts the days you hit it. Every nutrient is free to track, and two goals can run at once on the free tier.

PocketChomp is on Google Play
The Android open beta is public. Anyone can install it from Google Play, with no invite and no waitlist. What's free, what's in PocketChomp+, and what I need from you.
A calorie counter you can use without an account
PocketChomp works with no account, no email and no sign-in. Here is what stays on your phone, what leaves it, and why, one line at a time.
How to read a Canadian nutrition label
A line-by-line guide to the Canadian Nutrition Facts table and the new magnifying-glass "High in" symbol: what % Daily Value means, which numbers matter when you count calories, how to spot a US label in your app, and the rounding that quietly adds up.
How PocketChomp works out what you actually burn
The plain version of Dynamic TDEE: why the setup formula is only a guess, how the app learns from your food and weight, why it moves slowly on purpose, and how I check it against what the scale actually did.
Is PocketChomp really free?
Yes. Barcode scanning, label scanning, search, typed meal descriptions, every micronutrient, custom goals, custom foods and recipes, offline use and CSV export are all free, with no ads and no scan limit. PocketChomp+ is an optional subscription that adds AI photo and voice logging, adaptive targets and longer-range insights. It never takes the basics away.
Do I need an account?
No. You can use the entire app as a guest. Cloud sync is something you turn on, not a condition of using it, and your log is written to your phone first either way.
Does it work without a connection?
Yes. Health Canada and USDA foods ship inside the app, and everything you have searched or logged before is cached on your device, so you can search, log and review with no connection at all.
How Canadian is the food database?
More than 66,000 of the 140,000+ foods come from Canadian sources, including Health Canada's nutrient file and the house brands you find in the major Canadian grocery chains. Verified entries rank first in search, and the app is metric by default.
Is my food log private?
Your log is stored on your device by default, and you can use the app without an account at all. If you turn on cloud sync, it is backed up to our server so it can follow you between devices. You can export everything to CSV or delete it, including the server copy, whenever you want. We do not sell your data.
Which phones does it run on?
Android, as an open beta on Google Play. An iOS version is planned. Join the email list and you'll hear when it's ready.
Does it work outside Canada?
Yes. USDA foods ship inside the app next to Health Canada's, and barcode lookups fall back to Open Food Facts' worldwide database. Canadian groceries have the deepest coverage; US store brands are thinner. It will be on Google Play in the US too, priced in your local currency.
What does PocketChomp+ cost?
$6.99 a month, or $39.99 a year with a 14-day free trial. It is optional, and the free tier is a complete logging app rather than a trial of a paid one.
